Easy Dining Room Makeover

Easy Dining Room Makeover was written by Emma Cooper and she writes "A dining room can be such a fantastic place to entertain, but it can easily be underused if you often eat in the kitchen or in front of the telly instead. Here are a few hints to make it a more special place to spend time?

1) Adding a table cloth and a vase (a pint glass or milkbottle will do for that 'shabby chic' look that is very in at the moment) full of flowers (pick wild ones from your garden/balcony or pick a small bunch of something simple like freesias and gypsophila at your local florist/supermarket) adds instant homely atmosphere to a dining room.

2) Light some candles and turn down the lights to add mood. This doesn't have to be romantic (although it certainly is!) - it is equally relaxing and a lovely way to end a stressful day at work..

3) Create instant new chairs by covering your existing ones with a pretty disguise. All you need is a couple of old sheets and some ribbon. I would recommend batch-dyeing sheets with Dylon Machine Dye (really easy, just follow the instructions on the packet) to a colour that coordinates with your curtains and carpet, then cutting each sheet in half. Your local haberdashers/John Lewis will stock ribbon - I'd choose quite wide ribbon in a similar colour, or another colour in your scheme, eg brown ribbon on cream sheets, or gold ribbon on burgundy sheets for a lovely warm look. You'll need about 1 - 1 ½ metres per chair, depending on the width of the back of the chair. Drape the half-sheet over the chair lengthways, so that the seat and the back are covered, and tie the ribbon around the back of the chair above the seat, so that the fabric on the back of the chair is taut and secure. Tie a knot or a bow at the back, and, hey presto, 'new' dining room chairs!

4) Antique tablecloths and dresses can be cut up to make colourful napkins - simply cut into squares and hem or overlock the edges to make unique napkins you'll never see anywhere else.

Start making supper time a special time that you spend together as a couple or family - a place where you have the chance to talk and share the day's successes and disappointments without the distractions of the television, or even the washing-up (at least not until afterwards!). Enjoy!

Adding A Shower Enclosure Can Transform Your Bathroom!

Simon Phillips has written 'Adding A Shower Enclosure Can Transform Your Bathroom!' and writes "In these days of deadlines and time limits, shower enclosures are an increasingly popular option. Jumping in the shower is a time-saving alternative to a long soak in the tub, so having a shower enclosure fitted in your bathroom can transform your daily routine. As well as providing a practical function, a shower stall enclosure can look sleek and modern, adding a touch of style to your home.

To help create a feeling of openness and spaciousness, an all glass shower enclosure can be the perfect choice. Shower stall enclosures made from tempered safety glass can let the light shine through, brightening up your shower times! Clear glass is great if you have some decorative bathroom tiles you want to show off. Alternatively, for the more modest, there is a selection of colored, moldered and etched glass patterns. A frameless shower enclosure offers an up to date look, which also benefits from being easier to keep clean than the more traditional framed option. Simply use a squeegee to remove water droplets to prevent mold growth..

When looking at bathroom shower enclosures, do not be afraid to ask manufacturers for their advice on which style would fit in with your bathroom's design and layout. Pay attention to all the details, such as the finish of your shower door hardware. Choices range from satin chrome to brushed nickel and brass, depending on the style of your existing bathroom fixtures. Look at a range of shower doors to find one that meets your needs and looks the part.

With a bit of thought you can find a shower enclosure that is ideal for your needs, which will provide many years of outstanding performance. As much as a relaxing bath is very pleasant, it's always nice to have the option of a quick shower!

Decorating a Guest Bedroom - Get Out of your Own Way

Joey Lewitin has written 'Decorating a Guest Bedroom - Get Out of your Own Way' and writes "Decorating a Guest Bedroom

The guest bedroom is the one room in the house that you aren't decorating for yourself. Therefore when you go to design the rooms décor, it is important not to get in your own way. Overdoing the decoration in this room will be a disservice to guests by reinforcing the fact that they are not in their own home. As comfortable as they may be with you, they will never be as comfortable in your home as they would in their own setting. On the other hand, failing to place those few simple pieces that make a space feel personal; will leave the guest room feeling cold and empty.

Arguably the most important item in the guest room, the item that turns it from an extra room into a guest bedroom, is the bed. The bed does not have to be visible. You can have a regular bed, a fold out couch or futon, or a semi permanent bed such as a cot or an air bed..

A regular bed will cost you some space, and a full mattress can be expensive. If you get a small twin sized bed you can throw some pillows on it, place the long end against a wall, and let it double as a couch. A sofa bed does this even more effectively, creating a room that has a dual purpose. Futons are also often less expensive then full mattresses. The least expensive method is a removable bed, such as an air bed or cot. This can open the room up completely, allowing it to double as a gym, sitting room, or library. Usually these beds are very uncomfortable however some of the better quality air mattresses are being made to higher and higher standards. Be sure to try it out before you buy, and make sure that you only get one that is self inflatable.

After you have settled on the bed you have to fill in furniture. If the room doubles as something else, such as a gym, you will have to work around that. A traditional guest room will contain a set of drawers, and a small table. Additionally you can add TV stands, plant stands, or desks, if you have the room. Think of a hotel. They provide just enough to make a person feel comfortable, but they are sure never to clutter the room.

For ambience you can add lamps and different lighting. Lighting is a decoration on its own that is much understated. A floor or desk lamp can provide both illumination and décor. Adding a television or a radio is also a nice touch if it's in the budget. These items can be used even when the room is unoccupied, as a way to relax in a secluded setting.

The finishing décor touches should be small. Any artwork placed in the room should be restrained, don't force extreme tastes on others. Impressionistic prints are often the right touch to complete the room. Wall clocks or desk clocks are also a nice way to make a room feel more comfortable.

Decorating a guest room is fairly uncomplicated. You want to provide just enough so that the person in the room is comfortable, without overloading them with your decoration. Just remember to keep it simple, and you should be able to design a room that will make it hard for you to get your houseguests to go.

Easy And Inexpensive Kitchen Decorating Tips

Lee Dobbins has written Easy And Inexpensive Kitchen Decorating Tips and writes "Small changes can have a big effect on how your kitchen looks. Below are 11 decorating ideas that you can do yourself in a day or less. Not only are these simple changes are easy to do, but they are inexpensive too!

1. Afraid of changing your drab white kitchen walls? Instead of choosing rich, deep colors for your first project, you will likely feel more comfortable with a neutral such as beige or gray which will not date the room or create a jarring palate that you will easily tire of.

2. Brighten up the kitchen. Use mirrors to capture the sunlight and bounce it around. Try putting a mirror across from a window or on a wall that corners against the window wall for the most light distribution..

3. Make seasonal changes. Moving the kitchen furniture into a 'summer arrangement' can optimize your space and give it a more airy feel. Make it light and breezy - think about removing some of the furniture and decorations for a lighter feel. Open those curtains and let the sun shine in!

4. Use slipcovers. Slipcovers over your chairs can soften the room and add to your decor. For the holidays, try using special covers in holdiay patters or colors. For a nice summer change use white cotton or canvas slipcovers on the chairs.

5. Get ideas from the pros. Look in magazines, books, television or the internet to get a flavor of the accessories and designs you would like to see in your kitchen. IF you see a kitchen decorated in a way that you like, think about how you can duplicate the same decor in your home.

6. Decorate with cookbooks. You can make a nice display with your cookbooks. Try grouping them in interesting configurations with some laying down and some standing. Don't put small books next to tall books but align them in graduating sizes.

7. Warm it up with rugs. Area rugs can add a splash of color or cover up an old or unmatching floor. When buying rugs, measure the space so you can be sure to get the right size. Rugs used under a table should be large enough to also accommodate the chairs when fully pulled out.

8. Bring the outdoors inside. Don't be afraid to hang plants from any bare ceiling corner to give a lived in feeling to a plain kitchen. Plants provide interest and soften up the room. For above the cabinets or hard to reach places, silk plants work just as well as real ones, however, if you do buy silk, go with a good quality arrangement that looks realistic.

9. Change your look with accessories. A few strategically places accessories can change your kitchen from dull to dramatic! Maybe you want to go with a certain theme and you might be able to give your kitchen a whole new look just by replacing some key accessories like toaster covers, dish towels, cannister sets, salt and pepper shakers and pot holders.

10. Change your cabinet pulls. Theres so many different styles of cabinet pulls these days - figural, wooden, ceramic, glass - you should be able to find a design that matches your new decor easily. They are easy to install yourself and your friends will think you got new cabinets!

11. Add a border. wallpaper borders are easy to put up and can add color and interest. You can use them at the top of the wall or go with a less traditional use underneath the cabinets. Use them at chair rail height to break up long walls. An even less expensive (but more labor intensive) alternative is to use stencils and paint.

Furniture Placement Secrets

BatSheva Vaknin has written Furniture Placement Secrets and writes "The easiest and most inexpensive way to invigorate the design of your living room is to rearrange the furniture items you already own. Furniture placement can be a daunting task, no matter how big or small the room. If you are someone who always figured furniture placement would be better left to professional interior designers, fret no more. These tips will help you embrace the task of balancing your sofa with your coffee table or armchair, and allow you to create peace and harmony amongst all your furniture.

Location, location, location

A room must be balanced. Specifically, the furniture in every room should be placed in a way that is pleasing to the eye and easy to maneuver around. If all the heavy furniture pieces like sofas, armchairs, entertainment centers and bookshelves are loaded on one side of the room, a room can feel like a sinking ship.

On the other hand, if you spread your furniture around the room haphazardly, a room can feel cluttered even when it is relatively empty. Think about the size of your living room in relation to the amount of furniture you have..

You can anchor the room by situating a large entertainment center against one wall, and then arrange all seating comfortably around that anchor. Or, anchor your sofa against a wall, add a small side table or a coffee table in front for convenience, and voilá! Your room is balanced.

Sofa Secrets

Using your sofa as an anchor, or as the focal point for your living room can be an effective furniture placement tool. However, modular sofas, or sofas with many components, can be too heavy an anchor, tipping the balance of the room with its bulkiness. A creative solution to this problem can be found in breaking up the pieces of the sofa.

Place the largest sofa piece against the longest wall of the room, then the smaller sections on the opposite side. If you have the smaller sections of the modular sofa face the long sofa at an angle, you will avoid that boring, boxy look that comes with having all furniture pieces pressed with their backs straight against a wall.

A fresh alternative to placing your sofa against the longest wall is to bring the sofa out, away from the wall. If you prefer this look and feel for your sofa placement, allow at least two and a half to three feet between the sofa and the wall for comfortable walking space. Less space is needed between chairs and a sofa, but always keep in mind walking patterns.

Go with the Flow

Imagine how you and your guests will maneuver in your living room with all the furniture in its proper place. For example, if there are two doors, you may want to place sofas and chairs in a manner that will allow passersby to walk behind or around the seating arrangement instead of through it.

If there is only one door to the room, don't block the flow with a large coffee table right in the way of the sofa. Make sure you allow easy access directly to the sofa and chairs from the door, allowing for some space around the seating area as well.

Larger living rooms can be designed so that they function effectively as two areas. For example, have one social, entertainment center seating arrangement in one section, and a quieter study arrangement in another. Tall side tables can be placed behind a sofa with decorative vases and pictures on top, as long as there is still walking space behind the couch.

When deciding on how to arrange your living room furniture, listen to your instincts. Wait to decorate the walls for a few days or even a week once you have decided on where you are going to put each piece of furniture, to give yourself a chance to get used to the new placement. Live in the space for a bit, and assess how you feel. If something doesn't feel right, you can always move it, and use these tips to help you bring your living room back into balance.

Custom Slipcovers Can Give Your Furniture A Stylish New Look

Caroline Smith has written Custom Slipcovers Can Give Your Furniture A Stylish New Look and writes "If your furniture could do with a new look, then you may be interested in some custom slipcovers. Unlike re-upholstery, a slipcover can be easily replaced whenever you feel like a change and can be removed when it needs cleaning. Custom slipcovers are a great idea if your furniture is in good condition, but you just fancy a change of appearance, or if you want to protect the existing fabric from wear and tear.

A fitted slipcover can be made to measure to fit your particular furniture exactly. Because they are custom made these sort of slipcovers fit very snuggly, a bit like a second skin. There is no need for elastic or ties, as there is with ready made slipcovers. Fitted slipcovers can look very smart and stylish, but of course they do cost more than standard one-size-fits-all slipcovers..

The price really depends on your particular requirements, such as how big your furniture is and how much fabric you need. The quality of the fabric will also affect the price. Be wary of very cheap fabrics as you may be getting an inferior product that will not last long after the first wash. Good quality slipcovers can last for years. Other costs involved include the personal service you will receive, such as house calls to take measurements of your furniture.

Custom slipcovers can totally transform the appearance of your furniture, not just be changing the fabric, but by altering the design as well. For example, custom slipcovers can have covered welt accents or decorative skirts if you choose. So you have the option of hiding the legs of your furniture or putting them on display. You can get a brand new look for your room without having to replace your furniture.

So, if you think it's time for a change, why not consider some custom slipcovers for your home?

Choosing Conservatory Furniture

Matthew Anthony has written Choosing Conservatory Furniture and writes "Conservatories are such lovely and serene rooms that homeowners want to spend a lot of time in them. However, you cannot enjoy your conservatory very easily without choosing conservatory furniture. Whether you want to sit and sip a cup of tea or just want to curl up with a good book, you can find functional and attractive furniture for your conservatory.

When you choose conservatory furniture, you will need to look for a few important features. First, since most conservatories have higher humidity than other rooms in the home, you should look for furniture that is weather resistant or made specifically for conservatories. Next, look for comfortable pieces. You want to be able to relax and enjoy your room. Finally, look for pieces that have classic styling. You do not want to have to constantly replace your furniture because of fad changes.

Rattan furniture is the traditional choice for conservatories for good reason. This beautiful but functional furniture can easily handle the humidity of the room, as well as damage from the sun's rays, for many years. Although it is usually found in natural, green, or black colors, you can find rattan furniture in other colors, including white and tan, as well. Chairs, sofas, coffee tables, and stools are all readily available in rattan..

Rattan furniture is usually bigger and sturdier than wicker pieces. However, if you want to give your conservatory a more delicate and airy look, you may still want to take a look at wicker furniture. For people who prefer the look of wicker but are concerned that it won't hold up long enough, resin furniture is available. This furniture can be made to look exactly like wicker, but it is much more durable.

Iron or metal patio furniture is stylish and functional enough to move from the garden to the conservatory. With it's sleek style and neutral colors, metal furniture is ideal for anyone looking to create a room with a modern feel. For added comfort, you may want to add cushions to your chairs or sun lounger. Since waterproof cushions are available in a wide selection of designer fabrics, you can find the perfect cushions for your conservatory. Also, consider adding a dining area to your conservatory. Teak tables and chairs are extremely long lasting and durable without sacrificing style. If you prefer iron, Rattan, or wicker pieces, look for pieces with glass, mosaic, or marble tops to add additional style.

Finally, no matter which pieces you choose for your conservatory, be sure you take the time to use them. After all, there is no sense in letting that beautiful room go to waste.

Tips for Taking Care of Fine Wood Furniture

Terry Weadock has written Tips for Taking Care of Fine Wood Furniture and writes "Now that you have purchased some fine wood furniture, it is important to take proper care of it. With some basic care, your fine furniture can last for years, and stay just as beautiful as the day you bought it. Below are some tips on taking proper care of wood furniture.

1. Wood Furniture Care
Proper care of wood furniture is essential if you want it to last. Keeping it out of direct sunlight will keep the wood finish from fading out.

Even though many pieces of new wood furniture come with finishes that are resistant to sunlight, it is still possible for them to fade if exposed to the sun for extended periods of time. You may wish to close the drapes or blinds in rooms containing this furniture during certain parts of the day to keep the direct sunlight off.

Keeping wood furniture dry is also essential. If the wood gets wet, it can cause the finish to peel or fade, and can actually warp the wood. Be sure to wipe up any spills as soon as you are able. Do not let them dry or you may end up with a permanent stain..

Protecting the tops of wood furniture is essential to avoid scratches and dings. Using a tablecloth on a wood table is a great idea if the table is used often. Besides accenting the look of your wood table, it will also protect the table surface. Never put hot pots or pans directly on a wood table top. Coasters, trivets, and hot pads can also be used to protect your table. Avoid using any type of cover that has a rubber or vinyl backing on it. These materials have chemicals in them that can permanently ruin the wood finish.

2. Wood Furniture Cleaning
Dust your wood furniture often to keep the surfaces shiny and bright. Always use a soft cloth to keep from scratching the wood. When dusting, always dust with the grain of the wood. If your furniture gets dirty, try cleaning it with a soft cloth soaked in warm water. If this does not work, try using a mild soap and water solution on your cloth, and try it again. When done cleaning with soapy water, use a different cloth soaked in warm water (no soap) to remove the extra soap residue. When done, wipe down with a dry cloth to remove any extra moisture. Scratches and dings can sometimes be removed with furniture touch-up products that can be purchased at fine furniture stores, or at hardware stores. Try to avoid over polishing wood furniture. This can result in a wax build-up which will dull the shine of your wood.

3. Wood Furniture Storage
Wood is susceptible to damage from humidity. Thus, damage can occur if your furniture is stored in a place with too much humidity, or too little humidty. Basements are generally fairly damp, so if you plan on storing your fine furniture in the basement be sure to get a dehumidifier. You should also cover the furniture with cloths to prevent a build-up of dust.

7 Tips to Care for Your Antique Furniture

Martin Swinton has written 7 Tips to Care for Your Antique Furniture and writes "During your spring cleaning, don't forget to think about your antiques. In this month's column, we'll give you seven tips to help you care for your antique furniture.

1. Use paste wax

Every couple of months, wax with a good quality paste wax that can be found in any hardware store. If you wax too much, it can dull the finish and attract dust. To remove a waxy build up, apply varesol with a clean cotton cloth. Proper waxing will bring up the color and grain of the wood and protect it. Rub a small amount on a soft cloth and apply it in circular motions. Let it dry then buff with a clean cloth.

2. Don't use aerosol sprays

Avoid aerosol spray polishes because they can contain silicone oil and other agents that can be harmful to your furniture. For daily cleaning, use a clean cloth or a clean duster. For those who like to use something more, I recommend Orange Oil because it works well to clean and polish wood finishes. I like it because it doesn't leave a wax build up and doesn't contain linseed or silicone oil..

3. Use coasters

A great deal of surface damage can be prevented if you always remember to use coasters, mats and trivets and avoid placing hot and/or wet items directly on furniture.

4. Avoid scratching furniture

Never slide anything (vase, plate, serving dish etc) across a surface because it will scratch. A very light scratch can be treated with Restore-AFinish, a great multi-purpose product. Deep scratches require the skill of professional restorers.

5. Clean liquid spills

Spilled water should be thoroughly wiped up immediately. Alcohol and solvents (nail polish, nail polish remover, perfumes) should be dabbed, not wiped because they can act like a furniture stripper and damage the finish. White rings left from either a hot drink or a wet glass should be attended to right away. A little Brasso applied with a clean cloth may do the trick. Or, I have found that Restor-A-Finish works well to remove white rings. Always test on a small area first. Remove candle wax - Wait for the wax to cool then gently loosen using a fingernail to remove.

6. Draw the drapes

Just as sun damage to the skin is cumulative and permanent, its effects on wood are just as destructive. Diffused sunlight over a long period of time can be as detrimental as direct sunlight over a short period of time. Sunlight can turn a clear finish yellow. The only good news about sun damage is that it's easy to avoid. Draw the drapes, pull the blinds or have an UV-filtering film applied to your windows.

7. Don't ignore relative humidity

Central heating is the worst thing to happen to antiques. A warm inside and cold outside makes life comfortable while wreaking havoc on antiques. It's the fluctuations in relative humidity that central heating creates which cause the problem. Wood responds to relative humidity by expanding and contracting as it tries to maintain a balance with its environment. It's not the rapid changes during the course of a day that cause the most damage. It's the long-term seasonal fluctuations, which cause the serious damage.

During the dry winter months when it is cold outside and warm inside, wood tends to shrink. During hot damp summers when it is warm outside and cooler inside, wood tends to expand. Long-term exposure to these conditions leads to cracking, warping and splitting.

To guard against the fluctuations in relative humidity in your home, use a humidifier during the cold winter and a dehumidifier in the damp summer. Think twice before putting a good piece of furniture in a basement, attic, near heating vents or near fireplaces. Keep fresh air circulating. Maintain a constant room temperature and turn it low at night.

Review of Popular Water Softener Products

E-watersofteners.com has written A Review of Popular Water Softener Products snd they write "With so many types and brands of water softeners to choose from, how does a consumer decide what is right for their needs? How does one compare water softeners and find the one that will work the best for them? When it comes to buying water softeners, being an educated consumer is the best policy. Explore different types and manufacturers. Compare prices. Other things to consider are what type of environment the water softener will be set up in, size, installation, construction of the unit, convenience, and water softener rating which indicates the amount of minerals that can be removed before the unit needs to be recharged.

Kinetico water softeners are favored for their convenience; however, they are expensive in terms of the unit's cost as well as the price of upkeep. They recharge based on volume, eliminating the need for a schedule. Kinetico water softeners are also non-electric units..

Culligan services residential customers, offering purchase and rental options for their water softeners. They also offer a salt delivery service with the purchase of a water softener. Culligan is favored for its durability, but some have trouble with salt refills and strength of some of the components. Culligan is also said to be good at removing iron from the water supply.

Kenmore, in addition to being known for its air filtration and other household appliances, offers a range of water softeners, from the very basic to the heavy-duty models. The Kenmore systems also offer extras like the ability to filter out larger particles and added settings that make the units more efficient. Kenmore contends that the cost of everyday household upkeep can be cut in half with the use of a water softener system.

General Electric, or GE, founded by none other than Thomas Edison, offers a diverse line of products, including water softeners. The business is run on the principles, ""imagine, solve, build, and lead."" GE offers water softeners small enough to accommodate a single-person household all the way up to a unit that will serve a household of four or more people. The GE water softeners include a technology called SmartSoft, which works through a low-capacity transformer to save energy, minimize salt loss, and gauge water softening needs.

There are numerous water softener vendors out there who sell both ionic exchange and magnetic water softening systems. To find the best water softeners is a daunting task, but a good start might be to visit your local hardware store. You can also get information from people around you such as neighbors or coworkers.

Water Softeners Info
provides detailed information about magnetic and ionic exchange water softeners, home water softener systems and kits, product reviews and comparisons, water softener salt, and more. Water Softeners Info is the sister site of Dishwashers Web.

For much less than $100, you can go from plain to exceptional. An often overlooked facet of bathroom decorating is the shower curtain hook.

Shower curtain hooks are used to attach shower curtains to rods. Though they are functional, they do not have to be boring. Hooks are available in many different styles. No matter your decorating style, you are sure to find a shower curtain hook to match.

They are available in a variety of materials, including glass, plastic, brass, silver, and copper, and in a rainbow of colors. They come in many different styles, from gleaming chrome to distressed heart-shaped curtain hooks to fit a country décor..

Shower curtain hooks are also available in floral and nature designs. Leaves are a particularly popular element as they match many different shower curtains.

For collectors or those going with an animal theme, hooks are available in the form of cats, dogs, fish, and frogs. Insects are also a popular choice, with hooks shaped as ladybugs, bumblebees, butterflies, and more. Some feature an amazing amount of detail for such a small item. Decorating The Bathroom - Dress Your Mess For Less

Joey Lewitin has written Decorating The Bathroom - Dress Your Mess For Less and writes "The bathroom may be the hardest room to decorate. Its use and nature make the room decorative uninspiring, and its limited size and necessity of function make it difficult to add very much. Further, making a major change to the room's décor generally requires huge sums of money, when you consider the expense of changing tiled floors or walls, or replacing existing fixtures such as showers and sinks. However, there are a few thrifty things you can do to turn your bathroom from an eyesore into a place of decorative elegance.

The first thing you have to do is decide what color range you can use. If the bathroom has existing features such as ceramic tiling or fixtures, you have to choose any other piece you bring in to match those colors that are already there. This is only a slight stifle to your creativity though, as there are an unlimited number of shades and colors you can match up with others. Even if you don't like the original colors of the room, you can always balance them out with opposite colors in your décor..

The easiest way to decorate a bathroom is by using fabric coverings. You can throw carpets down to cover up boring tiles and add some color to the floor. They will also soak up water and help prevent slippage.

If your toilet looks out of date, get a seat cover in a funky color and turn it into an artistic eye catcher. Or go the whole way and get a whole new toilet seat. They are relatively inexpensive, and they allow you to change the look and feel of a fairly permanent piece. Here you will have to find a balance of comfort and style.

Bathrooms are functional areas, and they need to stay organized. Choose your containers with an eye towards color and style, and you will be adding natural décor touches to the room. There are soap dishes, toilet paper rings, and toothbrush boxes which can be purchased in matching sets. Buying items in the same or similar colors will give the bathroom a finished look that shows its appearance was planned with an attention to detail. In a room that is as small as the bathroom, one wrong color can unbalance the whole effect.

Bathroom accessories such as towels and washcloths are only temporary residents of the bathroom, and will be cycled in and out at various intervals. Buying a few matching linen sets allows you to change the look of the bathroom every few days. You can get a set in black for when you're in a dark mood, and a set in red when you're feeling particularly sensual. Always keep an eye on the rest of the colors in the room however, and try not to purchase anything that will clash with the colors already present.

The shower curtain is one of the most important décor pieces that you can easily change in your bathroom. They are prominently displayed, usually taking up a large section of the visual area in a room. This is the piece that can pull the whole bathroom together, so choose it carefully as every other color you bring into the room will have to match with this piece.

When it comes to bathrooms, take what you were given, and make it something that is your own. Play off of the features that are already in the room, balancing out what you don't like and reinforcing what you do. By making small touches you can make the décor of any bathroom fit your style.

Bathroom Vanities and Cabinets Come in Many Different Styles

Caroline Smith has written Bathroom Vanities and Cabinets Come in Many Different Styles and writes "Modern bathroom vanities and medicine cabinets come in a huge variety of styles and finishes, from the simulated antique look to sleek modern designs. Your choice of vanity unit and storage cabinet can have a big influence over the look and feel of your bathroom, so it's worth putting some thought into your decision to make sure you get it right. Think about the theme of your decor, as well as the layout of your bathroom. The positioning of your bathroom cabinets and vanity set plays an important role in the overall appearance of the whole room.

A well designed bathroom sink vanity can be adapted to store all sorts of items to help you keep your counter tops neat and tidy. You could have partitions in the drawers for small things such as makeup, with shelving for larger toiletries, and perhaps a pull out trash can to save space. Door racks for holding hair dryers or electric shavers are another useful feature of many contemporary vanity units. Similarly, bathroom medicine cabinets can hold all kinds of accessories, from towels to toothpaste. They can rest on the floor or be wall mounted or situated in a corner, depending on the best use of the space available..

Bathroom sinks can be made from a number of materials, from traditional porcelain to rustic looking stone or fashionable glass. Vanity tops can be custom made from your choice of material, including polished marble and granite. As well as choosing whether to have a furniture style vanity with legs or a block cabinet design, you can select all kinds of finishes, from unfinished wood to glazed maple or distressed paint. Attention to details such as your bathroom cabinet hardware can make all the difference to the end result. Try to find hinges and handles that match to the style and finish of your bathroom fixtures, such as your faucets.

Vanity units and cabinets are relatively easy to install and can work wonders at transforming an outdated bathroom. Vanities and cabinets for bathrooms are available in loads of different designs and can be the icing on the cake when remodeling your bathroom.

Guide to Bathroom Remodeling

E-bathroomremodeling.com has written A Guide to Bathroom Remodeling and they write "There is a reason why many Hollywood actors keep their awards in their bathrooms -- all their guests will visit that room at some point, so why not put the trophies were everyone will see them? But even if you haven't won any Academy Awards, your guests will be still checking out you bathroom. A well-done bathroom remodeling can impress your guests and boost the value of your home.

Bathroom remodeling can be as simple as new paint and fixtures, or it can be a total renovation and expansion. If you want to begin bathroom remodeling, the first thing you should do is assess your current bathroom.

Think about these questions to make sure you get the most out of your project:

How many people will be using the bathroom?
If a family shares one bathroom it may be a good idea to have a separate area for the toilet and shower so that someone can be showering while another person uses the mirror and vanity..

What is the bathroom's current condition?
Attacking grimy tile with bleach or industrial tile cleaning solution, polishing the fixtures, and adding brighter lights can put the sparkle back in your bathroom and cost lest than a renovation. But if the bathroom is out-of-date, falling apart or just boring, consider more intense changes.

How much money do you have for the renovation?
Before you begin, think of how much money you can realistically afford. No remodeling project should put you in debt. Once you have a budget, take a trip to your local hardware store to check out prices. Comparison shop and start looking for deals before you start your renovation project. You don't need to buy everything at once; you can easily wait for store sales to buy the tools you need and store them.

How much work can you do one your own?
If this is your first remodeling project, go easy on yourself. You will need to use this room, so make sure you don't get yourself into trouble. If your bathroom needs new wiring, plumbing, or even tile, don't be afraid to ask for professional help. Just make sure you account for it in your budget.

How much space do you have?
If you can knock down walls, be sure to plan ahead. Pocket doors and a shower, not a bathtub, are easy ways of conserving space.

How long will you be using the bathroom?
If you are remodeling to help sell your house, or might be selling soon, it may be best to stick with simple, conservative changes. Make things work and look clean, but don't add your dream whirlpool tub.

These questions address some of the most basic points of bathroom remodeling. Plan ahead, budget, watch for deals, and don't be afraid to ask for help. Remember, bathroom modeling should be fun, and the results are all for your enjoyment. Make the most of it.

Tips Before Buying Vanity Bathroom Lights

David Buster has written Bathroom Vanity Lights: Tips Before Buying Vanity Bathroom Lights and writes "Bathroom vanity lights are often overlooked in a bathroom. Artificial light from vanity bathroom lights and general lighting is important during hours when natural light is not available. Without good lighting, the decor and the personality of your bathroom can not be developed properly. And since the day usually begins and ends with a trip to the bathroom, time spent there should be comforting, relaxing and easy to see when grooming.

Bathroom vanity lights typically include one light or perhaps two or more above the mirror. Or, there may be lights or sconces on each side of the mirror or medicine cabinet and one ceiling light or a row of recessed ceiling lights over the vanity, depending on the size of your vanity and mirror. Make sure your bathroom mirror is evenly illuminated and free of shadows since this is where applying makeup, shaving and other grooming activities will take place. If you have two bathroom vanities, each one should have the same bathroom vanity lights setup..

You should have both ambient lighting and task lighting in the bathroom. Here are lighting types for providing artificial bathroom light:

? Ambient Lighting - chandeliers, surface-mounted, bathroom vanity lights, wall sconces and recessed fixtures are types of general lighting that illuminate the overall bathroom area. This type of illumination allows you to move around and see safely in the room. These types of bathroom light fixtures should be controlled by dimmers where you can change the intensity of the light for a relaxing feel when you are soaking in the tub, for example. General ambient lighting gives your bathroom the most illumination towards the floor, but it will produce more glare than other types of bathroom light fixtures.

? Task Lighting - is a direct beam of light that illuminates a particular area with very work-specific tasks, not intended to light the entire room. Task lighting can be a beam of light directed towards the reading area while in the tub, while shaving, reading, exercising on the treadmill, applying makeup or putting in your contact lenses. It can be turned on only when you need it. Use wall sconces on both sides of the mirror or medicine cabinet as bathroom vanity lights so that you benefit from lighting from both sides.

? Accent Lighting - these types of bathroom light fixtures are intended to create a certain visual drama and atmosphere in the bathroom, and they provide focus to selected details of the room for a decorative touch. Consider using track lighting to spotlight decorative objects or to provide a relaxing environment that you'll enjoy when soaking in the tub.

? Decorative Lighting - these are lighting fixtures that draw attention to themselves as objects and they are used to create an effect. Chandeliers, candles (traditional and electric), fireplace, candelabra and low voltage pendant fixtures are examples of decorative lighting.

Always choose light bulbs for bathroom vanity lights that provide light in the natural daylight spectrum. Bulbs that are mostly yellow or white will not show you how you will appear outside the bathroom, which makes applying makeup more difficult.

You should have many options for your bathroom vanity lights. Just as a luxurious soaking bath is a great way to begin or end the day, the lighting in your bathroom should provide you that warm, cozy feeling when you want. And when you need to see while grooming or shaving, vanity bathroom lights and lighting should make it easy to see.

If you find yourself unsure of how to proceed, consider consulting with a lighting designer to assist you in creating the best lighting for your home. Read and learn as much as you can about bathroom vanity lights and home lighting. Good lighting planning, design and implementation will provide you enjoyable, practical and dramatic effects for your bathroom and your home in general.

Do It Yourself Bathroom Curtain

Jennifer has written Do It Yourself Bathroom Curtain and writes "Need An Easy Bathroom Curtain Idea?

I've always had a hard time decorating my bathrooms. You want them to look more "cute" instead of fancy, after all, it is a bathroom not a bedroom! I wanted to have some type of window treatment over the windows, but the ones I usually picked out were more decorative and elegant and didn't serve as a good shade for those looking in!

Those plain old roller shades were perfect for keeping peepers out, but they were ugly! So plain and not colorful at all. Well, not anymore!

Now all you need is a roller shade for your windows. Buy some paint, stamps, sponges, beads, ribbons or anything else you'd like and decorate the roller shade itself. Whether your bathroom is decorated with seashells, fish, ducks or flowers, you can create a roller shade to match perfectly. You can sponge paint the shade with colors that match your bathroom, or you could stamp on images of fish, flowers or ducks that coincide with your current décor..

Roll out the shade all the way as if it were hanging on the window and covering it completely. Before you start decorating away, start with a plan. Decide what colors you're going to use and how you're going to design it. Then start decorating it!

This is a great crafting project for you and your older kids. If they have their own bathroom, let the kids decorate the shade all by themselves (with your supervision of course). You can also use these shades in bedrooms and let the kids decorate them according to the décor in their rooms.

Add A Splash Of Color To Your Bathroom With A New Shower Curtain!

Caroline Smith has written Add A Splash Of Color To Your Bathroom With A New Shower Curtain! and writes "If your bathroom is looking a bit tired, but you don't have the money to spend on refurbishing it, then a simple touch such as adding a new shower curtain could work wonders. If you are on a budget then a shower curtain is an inexpensive way to instantly liven up your bathroom and give it a fresh new look. As well as looking good, a shower curtain is a practical way to prevent water spraying out into the rest of the bathroom and damaging your furnishings.

Shower curtains come all kinds of different designs, so whatever your personal style and the color scheme in your bathroom you are sure to find something that will look great. Many people like to have a specific theme in their bathroom décor and try to find a shower curtain to fit in with this. For example, aquatic and nautical themes are very popular. You can find a wide range of shower curtains along these lines, with images such as dolphins, fish and sailboats in loads of different colors..

In addition to images, there are an enormous variety of different patterns when it comes to shower curtains. All kinds of stripes, polka dots and plaid designs can be found. There is also a fantastic selection of shower curtains designed especially for children, which can be a great addition to bath times.

These days shower curtains can be made from several types of material, most of which can be easily cleaned in a washing machine. Plastic and polyester are widely available. Cotton ones can also be found, but it is worth checking if you will need to buy a separate liner to make sure your curtain is waterproof. Liners can be bought at low prices from the same stores that sell shower curtains. You will also need to have a rod or rail to hang your curtain from. These are easy to install above a bathtub or shower stall. Shower rods and hooks come in a choice of different finishes, so you can find something to match your other bathroom fixtures.

So, if you want to smarten up your bathroom on a budget, sometimes the simplest option, such as a new shower curtain, can be remarkably effective!

Create the Right Splash With Bathroom Accessories

Scott Gray has written Create the Right Splash With Bathroom Accessories and writes "When decorating your bathroom, it is important to choose practical and beautiful bathroom accessories that also enhance the style of the room. It is this kind of attention to detail that separates a bathroom with charm and character from one that is strictly ho-hum. Bathrooms have come a long way from the days of strictly utilitarian design and use, and are now viewed as sanctuaries to which people escape and indulge in personal pampering.

The Powder Room - Go Wild

A powder room will be located where it is convenient for the use of guests, and is usually a small room. This means you can opt for such expensive decorating touches as crown molding and high-priced wallpaper which may not be affordable for the larger bathrooms in your home. As well, no bathtub or shower means there are no moisture concerns when selecting materials and decorating touches. You can hang a nice piece of framed artwork without worrying that dampness will destroy it. This is the bathroom in which you can use vibrant colors, and display luxury collections on a counter or shelf..

The Family Bathroom - Make Sharing Easier

Even if the family bathroom is of average size or larger, it may seem small because of the number of people using it. If this is the case, incorporate some creative storage ideas and pull out all the stops in creating the illusion of spaciousness. If there are young children in the family, you need to pay special attention to safety features as well.

* To make the room appear larger, choose light, cool colors for walls and trim, such as buttery or cream colored walls with white or beige trim, and make sure your bathroom accessories are also color coordinated: towels, shower curtains, bath mats, rugs, the clothes hamper, scales, and storage bins. Oversized mirrors can also enlarge the appearance of the room.

* Make sure there is at least one drawer or cupboard that can be locked so that medicines and other poisonous items can be safely stored.

* Attach a grab bar to wall studs located by the bathtub or in the shower stall as another good safety feature.

* In this day of pedestal sinks, storage has been sacrificed for style but do not accept defeat. If there is a closet of any kind, buy a closet organizer to hold towels and facecloths, and bins for personal items, one for each family member. If there is no space for a closet, add open shelves over the toilet, or any place they will fit, and use decorative bins to hold various personal items.

* If you can add a second wash basin, it will help relieve some of the bathroom traffic problems.

The Master Bathroom - You Deserve All the Luxury You Can Afford

The master bathroom, depending on its size and your pocketbook, can incorporate decorative ideas from both powder rooms and family bathrooms, and can include more luxurious bathroom accessories since it is generally an adult-only room.

If it is large enough, you can turn the master bathroom into a personal spa, with an oversized, jetted bathtub and an in-line water heater. Steam showers and rain bars are other elegant amenities, as is radiant heating and towel warmers.

Make A Plan

There are bathroom furnishings and bathroom accessories available to fit any budget. Before you begin to decorate or remodel, list what you need to do, what you would like to do and what you would do if you could find the money. Estimate the cost of materials and tools for the do-it-yourselfer - if you are one - and the cost of a plumber, an electrician, a carpenter, and a painter, if you are not. Decide what you can afford to do and whether you should go for an economical quick fix, or a more expensive major overhaul.

Paint, wall coverings, and flooring materials for all bathrooms except the powder room must be appropriately chosen for durability and water resistance. A water-base paint is acceptable throughout most of the interior of your home; however, interior painting of the bathroom requires an oil-base - enamel - paint. In general, materials that stand up well to excess moisture are:

* Plastic laminate
* Vinyl-coated wallpaper
* Semi-gloss enamel paint
* Masonry block
* Cast marble

When choosing colors, remember that light cool colors will make a room appear larger, as will painting walls and ceilings the same color. If you have a large room with a high ceiling, a dark color on the ceiling will lower it.

The Quick Fix

* Paint or wallpaper the walls.
* Paint the trim and the bathroom cabinets and shelves.
* Replace bathroom faucets.
* Color coordinate bathroom accessories: towels and face cloths, the shower curtain, scales, hamper, and storage bins, rugs, and bathmats.
* Replace the mirror or paint the frame.
* Replace lighting fixtures.
* Add decorative, color coordinated items to hold cotton balls, swabs, bath salts, hand lotions, etc.

The Complete Overhaul
As well as the quick fix:

* Install new fixtures: bathtub, shower stall, toilet, and sink.
* Replace bathroom cabinets, and bathroom countertops
* Choose new flooring.
* Install new bathroom faucets and showerheads.

Select Your Favorite Style

When you have settled on a decorating style that reflects your taste and your lifestyle, choose your bathroom accessories so that they will reinforce the look you want to achieve. There are three main styles, and, of course, you can develop one that is very personal.

1) Contemporary
The contemporary style demands clean straight lines and solid colors. Choose plain fixtures, natural wood for cabinets, stainless steel faucets, and decorative materials of wood, stone or tile. The room should look sleek and clutter-free, which means a minimum number of items on display and on the counter. Select streamlined bathroom accessories.

2) Country
The warm, cozy, country style calls for pastel earth colors and vintage-looking fixtures. You can go wild with floral patterns and fabrics, and use wicker for towel and toilet tissue baskets, and for the clothes hamper. Collections of bottles, framed botanicals, stencils on the wall, and other such decorative items are appropriate.

3) Traditional
Glamour and elegance are hallmarks of the traditional style and you should select porcelain fixtures with gold, silver, or brass faucets and fittings. Think floral fabrics and groupings of treasured collections, and use gold accents and gilded finishes wherever you can.

4) A Personal Theme
A collection of seashells, or your fondness for cactus plants or birds might dictate a particular motif that delights you and other family members. Bathroom decorating and bathroom accessories can revolve around this theme and inspire particular color choices and the inclusion of elements from the sea, the desert, favorite animals or birds, a fantasy world, or anything that has captured your imagination.

There are countless products and materials designed to enhance the beauty, comfort and convenience of bathrooms. When it's time to decorate, you can really have fun!

Scott Gray is currently a freelance writer and enjoys providing tips to consumers who are in the market for all types of home improvement projects, bathroom accessories and garden supplies.

Vanity Bench Adds a Romantic and Old World Feel to Your Bedroom Deco

Jennifer Akre has written A Vanity Bench Adds a Romantic and Old World Feel to Your Bedroom Decor and writes "One of the easiest ways to add a romantic or "Old World" feel to your bedroom's décor is by adding a vanity bench or set. By placing one of these vanity benches in your bedroom or dressing space, you can create a design element that cannot be obtained using other types of furniture.

Vanity benches remind us of a past era where it was okay to slow down and to linger over everyday tasks like putting on make up or brushing one's hair. Today, this luxury can still be part of your day when you place a gorgeous vanity bench in your bedroom or dressing room.

Not only are vanity benches practical, they are also very beautiful and come in a wide range of styles and finishes to coordinate with almost any décor. In fact, you can find a bedroom bench in all of the popular styles including English, Provence and Victorian, just to name a few..

Take for instance the English Country vanity bench, armoire and mirror by Powell furniture. This vanity bench features elegant details like those found in finely crafted furniture. Finished in a lustrous, satin finish, the English vanity bench is designed using fine moldings and classic turnings. The bench of this exquisite set is upholstered with light brown Chenille fabric.

If you prefer something a little more romantic, perhaps you would enjoy the Victorian Round vanity bench. This bench features an elegantly curved wrought iron back and sturdy base which is finished in a black matte color. The comfortable seat is upholstered using a fine, natural colored fabric.

Or maybe you are looking for something with truly an "Old World" feel. If so, you might appreciate the charms of the Heirloom Vanity, Bench and Mirror Set. This set is finished with an "Heirloom Cherry" finish and features Queen Anne legs and brass plated hardware. The matching bench also has elegantly curved Queen Anne legs and is upholstered with a rich, black, floral fabric.

If simple furnishings are more suited to your tastes, maybe you should take into consideration the Garden vanity bench and mirror Set. This set features an elegantly scrolled metal frame which is finished in a black matte texture and a glass top. The fully upholstered vanity bench is covered in rich damask tone-on-tone tapestry.

The bottom line is that no matter what style you prefer or how sophisticated your tastes are, you are sure to find the perfect vanity bench to accent your most intimate spaces. And you will not go broke while doing so. Most vanity benches, even those on the higher end, are very reasonably priced and average in cost at approximately $300 to $400. Of course, you can spend more than that, or less, depending on your tastes and how far your budget can take you.

But no matter what you choose or how much you spend, you will love the added design element that only vanity benches can your living space. So if your space is lacking in that romantic feel, maybe you should start browsing the large selection of vanity benches today.

Beach Theme Bedroom

Lee Dobbins has written Beach Theme Bedroom and writes "Using accessories is a fun way to accent your bedroom for a beach theme. You will find that you can dramatically change the look of your room simply by making small changes with the accents. See how easy it is to get a designer beach theme look in your bedroom without shelling out the big bucks.

If you're not sure exactly what you want in your beach desing, try looking in decorating magazines and books to get a flavor of the accessories you would like to see in your bedroom. For keeping the beach look consistent, you'll have to limit yourself to only purchase the accessories that match your theme.

Colors for a beach décor should make you think of the beach. Light and breezy with lots of blues and maybe even some yellows. If you prefer neutral tones think of the beige of beach sand and the color of shells..

Incorporate sea shells, ocean prints, and other seaside accents that will help bring out the beach in your bedroom. You should group your accessories in odd numbers. It always looks nice if your groupings consists of tall and short accessories mixed together. An interesting group of accents might consists of some shells aside a nice beach theme frame and a taller lamp.

Use beach theme prints and photos on your walls to establish the theme throughout your bedroom. Many people do not know how to correctly hang a piece of art and this makes a big difference to the visual appeal. Whether you are hanging a large oil painting or a small print, the middle of the piece should be at eye level. If you have a large piece of artwork you can try using it as a headboard. When hanging prints or photos behind a table, always place them 7 to 10 inches above the table. Hang pictures in circular, triangular, or rectangular geometric groupings to add interest.

When accessorizing your bedroom don't forget about the lighting. When purchasing lamps make sure to buy ones that go with the beach theme you want to create. For beach style lighting try using clear glass lamps filled with shells or figural light house shaped lamps.

Area rugs can define a space and pull your bedroom together. Rest furniture completely on the rug for a warmer effect. Only use rugs that go with your beach accessories.

Using pillows can add interest as well. Use several at the top of the bed and vary the texture colors and patterns while still keeping the color and theme within your overall bedroom design.

Don't think you have to buy everything for your bedroom at once. Shop around to find the perfect accessories to match the beach theme in your bedroom. You can find bargains at consignment stores flea markets and yard sales.

How a Good Bedroom Design Can Boost Your Confidence

Shrinivas Vaidya has written How a Good Bedroom Design Can Boost Your Confidence and writes "Do you know that your bedroom is responsible for who you are right now.

Your own bedroom is the place which you see last when you go to sleep and also is the first place you see when you wake in the morning.

These two are the times of the day when you are most receptive to receive any messages, good or bad.

Hey, what did I say? Good or Bad. Yes, it's true, anything you see, feel, touch, smell, listen to at this time of the day will contribute in making your "personality", no matter whether it works for you or not..

That's why you can make use of this fundamental reality to unconsciously program yourself almost automatically, by taking care of your bedroom. In short you can "design" your bedroom as a self help tool.

The term "design" in itself has a much wider scope. Design is not just color scheme, materials, lighting, furniture and its arrangement in the bedroom. It includes the personality of the person who is going to use it.

While in a bedroom, a person is more relaxed, feels more secured and is open minded to accept more positive messages. That's why it is necessary to understand the personality of a person before designing his/her bedroom.

His/her likes/dislikes, moods, what motivates him/her can affect the entire bedroom design strategy. This design strategy includes the type of furniture to be used (iron, wood, cane contemporary), color schemes to be used (cool, warm, composite) types of flooring materials(tiles, carpets, wooden floors, PVC floors), the overall theme of the bedroom(oriental, contemporary)

That's why a good bedroom design is one which creates a feeling of security for it's owner. Use of natural elements such as plants/flowers can greatly add to the motivational capacity of a bedroom space. Since plants and flowers already have a beauty of their own, can greatly enhance the aura of the bedroom.

A bedroom which is nothing but a full mess, is harmful for development of a healthy mind. A room full of clutter and unnecessary garbage gives a negative message to your subconscious. As far as possible, office work, computers should be avoided in a bedroom.

If there is a scarcity of space and such situation arises all care must be taken to keep the work clean and healthy. This requires a little effort, but payoffs are huge if done on a regular basis.

I hope this article was informative and positive.

Bedroom Furniture

Matthew Anthony has written Bedroom Furniture and writes "Buying bedroom furniture can be an exciting time; unfortunately if you have not shopped for bedroom furniture in awhile or this is your first time to buy bedroom furniture on your own you may not be well versed in the many different kinds of bedroom furniture available.

Confusion about bedroom furniture often arises in the different sizes of beds and mattresses available. The twin or single bed is about the smallest type of bed on the market and while manufacturers differ in the sizes slightly, the standard twin or single size bed measures 39" x 74." If you need a twin or single bed that is slightly wider and longer you might consider the size known as the super single; which measures 48" x 84." The old fashioned or full bed also known as the double bed is measured at 54" x 74". This is the kind of bed that you commonly see in standard hotel rooms. A queen size bed measures at 60" x 70" although you can purchase what is known as the California queen bed, a size that comes in longer than the regular queen bed at 60" x 84." The next size up in bedroom furniture is the king size bed measuring 76" x 80" while the California king size bed measures 70" x 84."

When shopping for new bedroom furniture, you will also need to be aware that there are very different types of furniture and beds. For example, you can get a standard bed or you might think about purchasing a water bed. Today, adjustable comfort level beds are also very popular and a wise choice if you have a sleep partner who prefers a different firmness level than you.

If you happen to be shopping for childrens bedroom furniture, today there are many different styles and designs on the market that will actually change to accommodate the growing needs of your child. These styles often start out as cribs that will convert to toddler beds and beyond. The bed that your child sleeps in as a baby can now be the same bed that they sleep in when they go off to college. While these styles are more expensive, they are definitely a good investment when considered over the duration.

Regardless of the type and style of bedroom furniture that you ultimately decide to purchase it's a good idea to take your time when shopping. Making a hasty decision when purchasing bedroom furniture often leads to regrets later, as well as many poor nights of sleep.

Matthew Anthony has contributed several furniture related articles to sites such as bedroom furniture.

5 Tips to Preschoolers Bedrooms on a Budget

Kathy Wilson has written 5 Tips to Preschoolers Bedrooms, on a Budget and writes "Decorating on a budget can always be a challenge, but nowhere do our hearts yearn to provide a beautiful room as much as when it comes to our little ones. Luckily, there are some great ideas you can do today, to punch up your preschoolers room, and keep the costs as little as they are!

1.Paint the room a wonderful, dreamy color. Soothing pool blues, apple greens, and soft yellows are great for a young ones restful spot. Make the colors too bright, and you will affect their ability to rest well as the colors will be too stimulating. Make them too pale pastel, and young ones have a hard time even registering them as colors! You can pick up a gallon of quality paint from your discount store for less than $10, which should cover the average bedroom, and make a quick and dramatic change in just a couple of hours. I recommend Dutch Boy paints for kids rooms, as they are almost odorless..

2.Get craft foam from the craft store in varying colors, and cut out shapes according to your rooms theme. The foam comes in sheets kind of like thick paper, cuts quite easily with scissors, and is brightly colored like a box of crayons! For instance, if your child loves trains and planes, cut out trains and planes! Learning to read? The alphabet! Trace from simple coloring books if you like. Now glue these shapes on the walls in a border or all over pattern. Quick, dramatic, cheap?and they will love it! (Can't glue? Use double sided tape!)

3.Pick up some cheap frames from the dollar shop, remove the glass for safety, and place pictures of your family, beloved pet, or even their own drawings right in their special place! It provides them with comfort when they are alone, and teaches them to value those close to them.

4.Keep an eye out for a low coffee table at yard sales.(Or maybe you have one in the garage?) Pick one up and paint it to match the room. This makes a great art table for kids?you would be surprised at how much time kids will spend being creative if only they had the materials to them available when the creative urge strikes! Cover empty wipe containers with contact paper, and keep full of washable crayons and chalk. Layout paper for them each morning, and be ready for the masterpieces!

5.Finally, make a little book corner for your little one. Even if they aren't reading yet, every small child should have the opportunity to spend time with books, and reliving the stories you read to them over and over! Place plastic crates on their side as bookshelves they can easily reach, and give them a soft spot to cuddle up, either with pillows on their bed, or a little beanbag chair in the corner. Yard sales are great places to pick up colorful books for just few pennies. And above all, find time to read to them each day in their special spot!

Just a few quick projects can enliven your kids imagination for years to come!

7 Feng Shui Fundamentals for Childrens Bedrooms

Kathryn Weber has written 7 Feng Shui Fundamentals for Childrens Bedrooms and writes "Feng shui is a very popular and intriguing concept in home design today. In addition to the life benefits it provides, it also offers a roadmap, so to speak, of not just how to decorate... but why. In short, it offers you, the homeowner, design with purpose. For a child's room this purposeful design is especially important.

Feng shui gives parents a guide for decorating your children's bedrooms, and perhaps more importantly, a reason for adding particular elements -- something standard decorating practices don't always offer. What does that mean exactly? Well, when it comes to a child's bedroom, feng shui dictates everything from correct bed alignment, proper bedroom choice, essential decorating and design elements, i.e., do's and don'ts (no vicious animals, etc.) for a child's room, even how to influence the child to be studious and well-behaved -- all things most parents would appreciate knowing..

The purpose of feng shui in a child's bedroom is the same as every parent's objective in decorating their children's rooms: to create a healthy, happy environment that fosters education, good health, happy relationships with parents and siblings, and respect for parents. Children and parents can enjoy success and healthy relationships if the environment supports them.

Naturally, children must feel safe, secure, and cared for to thrive. By putting interest and effort into your child's room, you are showing your child that you believe the child's space, and therefore, your child, is important. The tips presented here are some of the fundamentals of feng shui for children.

1.Place a happy picture of the parents in the children's rooms.
This subtly exerts the authority and prominence of the parents as heads of the household. It is also one of the quickest and most effective ways to bring a problem child into line.

2.Align the child's bed to the widest part of the room.
Make sure your child can see the door from his or her bed easily, but is not in direct line of the door. Your child should also not share a wall with a toilet or see a toilet or bathroom from the bed as this can cause health problems.

Bunk beds are not advised. If possible, try to have a separate bedroom for each child. If this isn't possible, there are lots of decorative ways to create division and privacy within a room.

3.Create a space for study and accomplishments.
Having a dedicated space, including a desk and lamp where your child can study, demonstrates to your child the importance you place on education and your child's educational achievement. If this has been a source of problems, make the study position in the NE corner of the bedroom. Also make a place on a south wall, if possible, of your child's accomplishments. Doing so reinforces that you are proud of your child's efforts. Display drawings, crafts, awards, trophies, ribbons, or other special items, such as tests with good scores or letters from teachers. Place items here that have brought special recognition.

4.Make the child's room a healthy place.
Water pictures, aquariums, or sounds of water that can be heard from the bedroom can create an unhealthy environment and may even lead to respiratory ailments. This is especially important if the child has any health problems, particularly asthma.

5.Clear the space so your child can rest and be creative.
Jammed closets and drawers, beds with boxes, shoes and other items underneath must be cleaned out. Creating space and visual openness helps your child to feel less pressured, and more likely to be imaginative and creative. More is definitely not "more" when it comes to kids. Give them a visual rest and clear out all the stuff they haven't played with in a month or more.

6.Use light, color, and artwork in the room to make a happy environment.
A child's room should stimulate, not dampen, the child's spirit. Make sure there is adequate lighting for the desk, for a bedside table, and that windows can be closed off for privacy.

Rooms that are painted blue (unless it's a bright or light-colored shade) or other dark colors can be depressing and create too much oppressive energy. Bright colors, such as yellows, light greens, purples and pinks are good choices, with yellow being the optimal choice.

Monitor the images your child sees being certain to eliminate images of ferocious or dangerous animals or violence. These are poor symbols for making a child feel safe in the bedroom. Select items for the room that inspire and intrigue a child to learn and that foster his or her sense of security.

7.Position children in the correct bedroom locations.
If possible, boys should be placed in the east or north bedrooms and girls should be placed in the south or southeast or west bedrooms.

Add A Little Spark To Your Bedroom With A Satin Comforter!

Chris Rodriguez has written Add A Little Spark To Your Bedroom With A Satin Comforter! and writes "If you want to make your bedroom look rich and luxurious, then top your bed with a satin comforter. Not only does satin carry a certain amount of sex appeal, but it seems to be an expression of wealth and prestige as well. Satin comforters seem to have maintained their popularity over the years mainly because of those two reasons.

Satin is a beautiful silky smooth material that feels incredible next to your skin. There are two main types of satin, a woven satin, and a knit satin. Most satin bedspreads and comforters are made from a knit acetate satin which is more durable than the woven satin. Woven satin makes an incredibly soft and smooth sheet, but it is also very expensive, which is why this satin is usually not used for comforters..

Satin duvets can be found in almost every color you could imagine. Rich reds, sleek blacks, lustrous purples, exotic golden browns, and many other radiant colors. Satin, especially red and black satin, is the material of choice for lovers as it seems to set the stage for romance. So if you are looking for ways to enhance your love life, you should definitely look into satin sheets and comforters.

Satin sheets and comforters continue to hang on to their age old reputation which encourages romance and desire. So your satin comforter will not only look fabulous on your bed along with all the decorative extras, but it will serve you in other ways as well.

Using Color To Change The Size Of Your Bedroom

Lee Dobbins has written Using Color To Change The Size Of Your Bedroom and writes "Did you ever wish your bedroom was bigger or smaller? Well if you don't have enough money to change the actual size of the room, then you can use paint to make the bedroom seem bigger or smaller.

Paint is well known as one of the least expensive and easiest ways to change the look of any room, but if you pick your colors carefully you can give the space a new feel as well as a new look. Certain colors can make your bedroom walls feel closer or farther away.

If you have a small bedroom and you want it to feel more spacious, then consider painting the walls a receding color. These are the blue - green - purpleish colors and any combination thereof. Look at a basic color wheel - you'll see that those colors are all next to each other on one side. You probably want to avoid the darkest of these combinations, however as painting a room in very dark tones can make it look smaller overall..

If you want to make a large bedroom feel more cozy, then paint the walls advancing colors. These are the colors on the other side of the color wheel - the reds, oranges and yellow. Bright warm colors will close in the space and make the room seem cheerful and cozy. Also if you have a large cavernous room with a very high ceiling, consider painting the ceiling a medium or dark color which will make bring the appearance back down to a normal height.

When painting your bedroom, make sure you buy enough paint to do the job! Consider how many coats you will need. A dark color may need several coats. IF you are trying to paint a light color over a dark, you may need to use some primer and also a couple of coats. 1 gallon of paint can do about 400 square feet so keep this in mind. To measure your room, go around the edge of all the walls with a measuring tape and record the total width. Measure the height from floor to ceiling and multiply by total width to get the square footage. Measure all the doors and window opening and subtract this from the total square footage (or not, it's always a good idea to have a little extra paint then not enough!).

Don't forget to protect your wood moldings with painters tape, remove all the covers from the electrical outlets and plugs and cover the floor and furniture with drop cloths!
